The Theory of Cultural Determinism states that we as humans are either infinitely malleable and able to change, or we are programmed by our culture and cannot move outside of that programming. I think both are true. What do you think? Can you change, or not?

Thinking Thursday’s are about critically thinking, breaking out of boxes, and discussing new ways we could live this life together.
The shadow self is spoken about by Carl Yung, Richard Rohr, June Singer and so many others in the spiritual and psychological world. It is the part of us we've suppressed to fit in. The part of us that Christianity confused with "sin nature." The part of us that needs to be embraced, nurtured, and cared for if we ever hope to be free.

Thinking Thursday’s are about critically thinking, breaking out of boxes, and discussing new ways we could live this life together.
So many of us come from upbringings where we were taught to ignore our feelings & bodies. Growth meant the suppression of both. This messed a lot of us up. Your feelings are important, they need attention & nurturing. Your body is important it needs attention & nurturing. Growth means being in tune with our emotions, body, and giving ourselves the attention we need.

This episode was recorded in 2015. So much has changed since then, in the world, on this show, in Seth and I both. We had a volatile meeting at first caused by past triggers of mine which I didn't know I had and I certainly didn't know how to heal. This episode sparked a great friendship.

Many of us grew up with the obligation to honor parents, authority, family members simply because it was the culturally pressured thing to do. This led to a lot of silenced abuse. I no longer believe we need to honor those that are not honorable. Love and forgiveness are for us, honor is for those who have earned it.

With COVID-19 we have been thrown into a situation we cannot control. Many of us are struggling. We’re waiting, hoping for things to get back to “normal.” We used to have the energy to grow and change, and now we can barely get up in the morning. What’s the answer? How can I get the energy back?

Jeremiah is the type of person we need in these times in history. He is a brilliant critical thinker and teacher of critical thought. We need this today to navigate our lives, discern our truths through constructs built around us, and taking the reigns of our lives our own way.

If your story threatens the life someone else has built to protect themselves from knowing their own trauma, not only will they rewound us by rejecting our story, but they will rearrange the story to fit their narrative so they can remain safe. Is their safe healthy? No. It’s denial.
