Losing Our Religion

A former megachurch pastor leaves religion behind to rid himself of the exclusivity created by its dogmas in order to open himself up to learn from the lives, stories, and experiences of everyone else. To prove we are more alike than we think and we can all get along no matter what we believe. Topics range via guest's experiences growing up in religious homes, where Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Secularism, Judaism, Hinduism, Tao, Heathenism, Satanism, Wicca and all forms of dogmas and ideologies programmed into the mind of a child. What happens when that child becomes an adult? What good things do they hold onto? What things do they lose? Where are they now, and in what ways are they finding the peace that we all desire, with or apart from the religions they were raised with? Losing Our Religion is a wild ride with a community of diverse humans each seeking their desired life away from dogma and exclusivity.

Justin is a 25-year-old Naval Hospital Corpsman, Third Class, Fleet Marine Force, HM3(FMF). He reached out to LOR early on as the show was beginning, where I learned he was in attendance of my final sermon as a Mega-Church Pastor.

He recently let me know that he was ready to tell his story and wanted to be a guest on the show. It was good timing, and I was happy to oblige. I had no idea that his story included deployment, firefights, and more. Justin transparently shares about his journey through his Naval deployment experience, as well as discussing how hard it is to lose someone, dealing with gruesome experiences, and even suicide.

We spend some time talking about my recent surgery as well as the Loser stories sent in by Ron Smith and Susan. I feel like I am starting to feel the freedom to be myself on a whole other level lately. I am caring less and less about what other people think of me. It feels good. So fuck off, and check out this episode as we wrap it up with some clips from Comedian Bill Burr talking about church brainwashing and letting go of religion. Laugh you fucks. Life’s too short to being caring this religious burden around.

In this episode, Ty opens up and shares his childhood with us. Growing up in a military family, the middle son of three siblings, moving around, dealing with dads, and being medicated.

I am so grateful for this time with Ty. His transparency and vulnerability will be appreciated by so many Losers.

This episode will blow your mind!

Some people call it conspiracy theory, some call it propaganda, I call it fucking interesting.  Ty blows my mind with some of the stuff he says.  I just wanted to give him a mic and let him talk.

At first meeting, Ty was one of the most interesting men I have ever met.  At first glance, he is a handsome black man.  Innocent in form, but wise in words.  In a very short amount of time, he began to share his thoughts, ideas, and realities.  Probably because of Toni, the mutual friend that introduced us, being a trustworthy lady and partly because we began talking about the podcast.

Ty may be labeled by some people as a "conspiracy theorist."  If that's the case then, in my opinion, what better time in history to be conspiring to find the truth of everything around us than right now!
